Hyderabad: With the state government starving the GHMC of funds, the civic body has been pushed into serious financial crisis. A situation has arisen wherein it may not be in a position to pay the salaries to its employees from December 1.

All that the civic body had got from the government was just about Rs 100 crore in two phases and as a result it can only afford to pay the salaries on November 1.

The corporation officials claim that civic body is yet to receive Rs 315.07 crore as grants from 14th Finance Commission for the financial year 2015-16. They said that the wage hike of about 47 per cent to the workers has put additional burden on the civic body to the tune of Rs 300 crore.

Besides this, the corporation has been denied Rs 300 crore (surcharge on) stamp duty and Rs 100 crore entertainment taxes by the government. This amount had been diverted for the maintenance of the city TSRTC buses and Rs 50.35 crore for Water Board.

A senior GHMC official said the GHMC has been searching for all possible means to come out of financial crisis.

The increase in the property tax and trade licence had helped them to meet the expenditure during the last three months but now the resources of civic body have dried up and it is wondering on how to meet the salary bill in December.

The sources said that if the GHMC gets the funds that are due to it from 14th Finance Commission, the surcharge on stamp duty as well as entertainment tax it would get some relief to the corporation.
