Mahabubabad: Congress party leaders have lashed out at the ruling TRS for neglecting the farmers’ issues during the party’s ‘Rythu Garjana’ organised here on Thursday.

The public, mainly the farmers in the State were not happy as claimed by the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao. The response to the meeting from the public indicates the mood of the people, pointed out the party leaders.

The TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the farmers in the State were in distress owing to dry spell for long time, excessive rainfall, spurious seeds and negligence of the TRS government. Yet the government failed to take up a field level survey to assess the crop damage and to provide compensation.

He said that the Congress would launch a signature campaign and collect about 40 lakh petitions from the debt-ridden farmers. The petitions would be submitted to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on December 2, 2016 during a public meeting in Hyderabad.

The petitions would later be submitted to the President of India Pranab Mukherji to highlight the plight of the farmers in Telangana, said Uttam Kumar Reddy while alleging that the TRS government failed on all fronts.

Even as the government was claimed to be a rich State, the negligent ruling of the TRS has thrown the State into debt trap. The CM was borrowing huge amount of funds from different sources to pay to contractors in return for commissions and the public were forced to bear the dent burden.

The promises of upgrading tribal hamlets into gram panchayats, free KG to PG education, crop loan waiver, three acre land to dalits and others were yet to be delivered. The TRS government has made schemes like Aarogyasri and others defunct, senior leader S Jaipal Reddy said.

Separate Telangana was formed because of Congress party and Sonia Gandhi, he added. The party leader K Jana Reddy hoped that the Congress party would come to power in 2019 and appealed the people to support the party.

The Congress ensured water supply to one crore acres and waived crop loans at one go. AICC leader AR Kuntia and Koppula Raju hit at the Modi government at the Centre for failing to control hike in the prices of essential commodities and fuel.

They sought to know what happened to the BJP’s promise of bringing back black money hoarded in foreign banks.

Main leaders stayed away from the meeting. The AICC general secretary and Telangana affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh, who was scheduled to address the meeting, has not attended due to illness, the party leaders claimed.

Similarly, the TPCC former president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, senior leaders Shabbir Ali, Batti Vikramarka and DCC president N Rajender Reddy have not attend the meeting. Internal differences in the party were said to be reason for their absence.
