The State government is contemplating to give permission to private schools to run the pre-primary sections - LKG and UKG officially, which were now running without recognition.
Hyderabad: The State government is contemplating to give permission to private schools to run the pre-primary sections - LKG and UKG officially, which were now running without recognition.
The government will also decide the curriculum and eligibility criteria for teachers and would bring them under the control of school education instead of the present Women and Child Welfare Department soon.
These issues were discussed at a meeting of the Education Department chaired by Special Chief Secretary Ranjiv Acharya on Thursday with the officials of the department and representatives of the Telangana Recognised School Managements Association.
It may be mentioned here that the government has proposed to start pre-primary sections in government schools also. If the government decides to give recognition to pre-primary sections in the private schools, 16,000-odd private schools will have to apply for recognition.
The department would check if the schools had complied with the guidelines or not before according permission, officials of the education department said.
As of now, private schools have been running pre-primary sections without recognition and there is no control or regulation.
Since the school education department gives recognition to schools having first to tenth classes, it has no control on the pre-primary sections.
The private schools are following their own curriculum and rules. Even the teachers appointed by them are not qualified and trained to handle pre-primary sections, sources said.
Telangana Recognised School Managements Association president Srinivasa Reddy told ‘The Hans India’ that government was positive on giving recognition to pre-primary education in the private schools.
Some untoward incidents that had taken place in the private schools recently have prompted the government to take action in this direction.
Apart from this, the meeting has also discussed giving permission to 2,000 private schools to convert into English medium schools.
These schools had got recognition as Telugu medium schools a few decades ago. As the government started 6,500 schools with English medium, they have been losing the strength.
Hence, these schools wanted the government to give permission to convert into English medium and the government had responded positively, officials said.
