Jagtial: But for the 67-year-old BS Ramulu, who waded through difficult situations and overcame adversities in his diversified life, who else is better qualified than him to head the first-ever BC Commission of the Telangana State to uplift the lives of socially marginalised sections.After his schooling in Jagtial, Ramulu completed DoL and BoL in Dharmapuri Samskrutandhra College.

Later, he got the warden job in BC Social Welfare hostel in 1975 and retired in 2007. Later, he was associated with Left leaning organisations besides playing an active role in the people’s movements.

Highly regarded as a social scientist, Ramulu also has his association with the then People’s War Group (now CPI-Maoists). He also went underground and after returning to main stream of life he continued his writings touching the lives of downtrodden sections.His Batuku Poru novel received Dasarathi Rangacharya award.

He is also the recipient of several awards from Konda Laxman Bapuji Foundation, Potti Sriramulu Telugu Viswavidyalayam and Solapur-Sircilla Padma Peetham. Some of his other novels are Adavilo Vennela, Gati Tarka Tatwa Darshana Bhumika, etc.Ramulu penned more than 30 books and they reflect his passion for the upliftment and enlightenment of the BCs.

Talking on his appointment as the chairman of the BC Commission, Ramulu told The Hans India: “It’s a huge responsibility. The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has given me a superb team that has immense knowledge of Backward Classes. We will study the living conditions of the BCs spread across other State in the country before coming up with a comprehensive report.”

Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao, one of the newly-appointed member of the BC Commission, of Huzurabad in Karimnagar district said: “Besides reviewing the factual position of the 112 communities of the BCs, our focus will be on 14 communities, mainly nomadic, that are not identified under any social class.

Rao worked as member of the BC Commission for two times in the united Andhra Pradesh.The other members of the BC Commission are Juluri Gowri Shankar of Kodad in Suryapet district and E Anjaneya Gowd of Jogulamba Gadwal district. The members, who hold office for a term of three years, are expected to assume the office on October 27.
