Luxettipet: Even as the government is spending crores of rupees towards providing education and other facilities in government schools, the students are facing untold hardships due to lack of facilities at Zilla Parishad Secondary School in Dowdepally. As many as 120 students of Dowdepally, Chandaram, Kommugudem, Rangapet, Venkataraopet and other villages of Luxettipet mandal are studying in the ZP School, located in a sprawling area of three acres of land. But the school premises with thick vegetation and bushes looks like an uninhabited area. There are even snake pits on the school premises endangering the lives of students.

It has become a safe haven for anti-social elements after the compound wall was collapsed and lack of proper security. The old school building, which is in a dilapidated condition, may collapse at anytime. Despite several representations to the educational authorities, no steps have been taken for the construction of additional classrooms in the school. Though construction of toilets was taken up at a cost of Rs 2.5 lakh under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the contractor failed to complete the works.

Some parents alleged that the TRS regime, which conducted Badi Baata programme in a big way to increase students’ strength in government schools this academic year, failed to focus on improving basic amenities in the educational institutions. Consequently, the students are facing severe problems and they are not able to concentrate on their studies. Though introduction of English medium in the school is a long pending demand, no steps have been taken in this regard so far, the parents pointed out.

Speaking to The Hans India, MEO Sattaiah said “A report will be sent to the DEO seeking immediate measures to improve basic amenities in the school. Steps will be taken to complete the construction of toilets. A proposal will also be submitted to the government soon underlining the need for introduction of English medium education in the school from the next academic year.”
