Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday directed State Energy department to sanction agriculture pump set connections free of cost to all farmers who submitted applications and have been waiting for the last five years.

At a high-level review on power supply to farming sector here, the officials told the Chief Minister that nearly 97,000 applications seeking pump set connections were pending before the Energy department and it required Rs 600 crore to complete the task.

In view of the increasing demand for pump set connections, KCR wanted all the applicants to be equipped with pump sets and power connections in seven months. He warned of stringent action against the officials who indulged in corruption in sanctioning connections.

To ensure transparency in delivering pump sets, the Chief Minister asked the officials to display the names of the beneficiaries in every Panchayat office.

He said arrangements were being made for the supply of 9-hour power to agriculture in the ensuing Rabi season.

Replacement of old transformers, establishment of new sub stations and the power demand after the completion of lift irrigation projects was discussed in detail in the meeting attended by State Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy and TS Transco CMD Prabhakar Rao and others.
