​New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister for Education K Srihari on Tuesday said that good results would come if better atmosphere was created in the educational institution.

Speaking at the meeting of Central Advisory Board of Education, he said providing enough number of teachers and checking dropouts would yield better results. He said the detention system would take away the right to education.

The meeting discussed the prevailing conditions in the education system of the country and changes needed to be brought in the national educational policy.

Srihari made it clear that Telangana State government would oppose the detention system. He said if implemented. it would affect the poor students. The lacunae in the present system should be corrected and basic amenities should be provided.

He stated that some of the policies being followed by the governments were encouraging dropouts from the government schools and was leading to proliferation of private schools.

He said the decision to provide 25 per cent of seats in the private schools for the poor under compulsory education policy is leading towards dropouts issue. Parents are showing more interest to send their children to private schools.

The Deputy Chief Minister suggested that steps be taken to correct the situation immediately. Srihari said to get long lasting benefits it would be better to implement uniform and effective educational system. This would allow the nation’s education system to achieve international standards.

He pointed out that it was unfortunate not to discuss the Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao programme, though it was mentioned by the Prime Minister in his speech from Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day.

In his reply Union Minister for Human Resources Prakash Javadekar said the Telangana State Deputy Chief Minister would be made chairman of the committee on Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao scheme.

He said that implementing the detention system would be left to the discretion of the State governments.

He appreciated efforts by the Telangana government to provide education through residential schools.
