Hyderabad: Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy on Tuesday flagged off 100 bikes equipped with fire tenders at People’s Plaza on Necklace road here.

The two-wheelers fitted with fire tenders are intended to ensure that they rush to places of fire accidents in lanes and by-lanes where the fire tenders cannot reach in a jiffy. The State government has decided to set up one fire station in every constituency, the Home Minister said.

While there are 119 Assembly constituencies, 100 fire tenders were sanctioned as of now against the existing 94 centres and more would be pressed into service shortly, he said.

Adequate number of fire stations would be set up at Cotton, Ginning Mills and Market yards and other places which were considered to be vulnerable to fire accidents.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was planning to strengthen the Fire Department by acquiring latest equipment, he said. There was no dearth of funds and the Fire Department, he added.

Home Secretary Anitha Rajender said the new bikes of Fire tenders would help avert loss of life and property. There was a need to recruit professional drivers, the Home Secretary said.

State Disaster Response and Fire Services Director General Rajiv Rathan also spoke.
