Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy has alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has pushed the bulk of nearly 14 lakh students in the State into depression by not clearing their fee reimbursement dues.

At a meeting organised by NSUI and Youth Congress at L B Nagar Crossroads on Thursday in connection with TPCC’s signature campaign on the issue, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the overwhelming response reflected the frustration and anger of the student community against the TRS government.

The State government was on the verge of bankruptcy as it had no money to pay for the students, farmers or poor patients. However, KCR was ensuring regular payments to the contractors of Mission Bhagiratha, he alleged. "KCR is not aware of students' power. They have the capacity to dethrone any government.

Therefore, KCR should treat this agitation as an open warning," he said. The TPCC chief said that the government owed private colleges nearly Rs 3,600 crore towards fee reimbursement dues. Despite giving an assurance in the Assembly, KCR had failed to keep his word.

Congress Legislature Party leader K Jana Reddy warned that the party would not remain a mute spectator to the sufferings of the student community. The Congress party could no longer trust the TRS government as it had been pursuing anti-student policies.

Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir accused KCR of behaving like a 'sadist' with regard to the student community in the State.

The Chief Minister was playing with the lives of over 14 lakh students. “Congress President Sonia Gandhi had conceded the demand for Telangana statehood in view of students' agitation and to prevent further suicides among the student community.

Today, students had been pushed to the streets by TRS government,” he said. The Congress party would not rest till the State government cleared entire dues of fee reimbursement, he asserted.
