According to Toopran Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkateswarlu, Bestha Kishtayya and Jodu Anjaneyulu had been killed when they accompanied their relatives for registration of land.

At first, it was believed that the duo were shot dead by Maoists as the former were surrendered Naxalites. Investigation into the murder after Nayeem was killed in encounter revealed that the killing was the handiwork of Nayeem’s gang.

The DSP said driver Satyanarayana and Nayeem’s follower Purushotham and a former Maoist, named Nagesh, were perpetrators. The investigation had further revealed that Nayeem’s niece Sajida was also involved.

Venkateswarlu said Kishtayya and Anjaneyulu were whisked away to Srisailam and murdered there by Satyanarayana, Puroshotham and Nagesh and the bodies were dumped in canals.

The motive behind the murder was the involvement of the duo in a dispute relating to 30 acres of land. One Srinivas had sought the help of Nayeem’s gang to settle the dispute as was revealed by Purshotham during the interrogation, the DSP said.
