Mahbubnagar: ‘Kurumurthy Jatara’ at Ammapur village in Devarkadra mandal, is the largest ‘Jatara’ festivals being held in Mahbubnagar district.

As this grand event is expected to be held from November 7-15 this year, the district administration, along with the temple committee and the police department, is taking all necessary measures to ensure smooth conduct of this biggest festive event in the district.

As part of security measures, the Mahbubnagar police is conducting regular inspections and reviewing the possible security situation for the upcoming Jatara programme.

“As the ‘Jatara’ is expected to begin by next week, we are regularly inspecting all routes leading to Kurumurthy temple and making all necessary arrangements.

To manage the heavy rush of devotees and avoid any untoward incidents like stampede and overcrowding, we have decided to deploy at least 500 police personnel during the 7-day event,” informed Mahabubnagar DSP Krishna Murthy.

Every year, lakhs of devotees come for the darshan of deity of Lord Vishnu during this ‘Jatara’. This temple is also popularly regarded as “Tirupati of the poor”. Devotees not just from Mahbubnagar and surrounding areas, but also from Karnataka and Maharashtra come to visit the ‘jatara’.

The most important day during Brahmotsavalu celebrations is Sri Vari ‘Uddala Seva’. During this event, a procession will be held wherein the footwear of the Lord will be carried and presented to Sri Kurumurthy Swamy.

“As part of our security measures, we have inspected and earmarked all the routes and procession paths leading to the temple. Particularly, during the ‘Uddala Seva’ and ‘Jatara procession’, there will be heavy influx of devotees.

To control this heavy rush of devotes, we are planning to establish outposts at Ammapur and Koukuntla villages,” informed the DSP.

Last week, District Collector Ronald Rose also conducted a review of the arrangements for the ‘Jatara’ and directed the police, the excise, transport and rural development departments to ensure all things such as transportation, sanitation, drinking water and security to the devotees, are put in place.
