New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment B Dattatreya hit out at the Telangana State government “for its sluggish pace of functioning”. Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Dattatreya said there was a huge gap between the claims and ground realities in the functioning of the Telangana State government.

The double bedroom scheme was yet to take off properly and the State government had not been utilising the funds already released towards the scheme by the Centre. The government must also be transparent and give details of “land to dalit” scheme as it had promised three acres of land to each dalit family. Similarly, KG-to-PG scheme had also not been grounded at all, he said, accusing the government of being lethargic in implementing all its poll promises.

The Centre was ever cooperative with the State government and he himself was taking a personal interest in securing the funds and clearances for the State. Yet, the State government was unable to exploit the same to the full potential to benefit the State and develop it on all fronts. There was little room for laxity or lackadaisical approach in governance, he said, urging the Telangana government not to be a “government of words alone” but also be a “government of deeds”.

Dattatreya met the his counterpart in the Rural Development Ministry Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday, to establish two more rural development clusters in Telangana, one each at Choutuppal in Nalgonda and Amangal in Mahbubnagar districts. He thanked Tomar for announcing four clusters for the State already and urged him to release Rs144 crore to tackle drought in the 231 mandals declared as drought hit.

He recalled that the Union cabinet had approved Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission with an outlay of Rs 5,142.08 crore. Seeking to bridge the rural-urban divide, the government would set up 300 rural clusters by 2019-20 across the country aimed at spurring the economic, social and infrastructure development in rural areas.

In his meeting with Union Minister Smriti Irani, he sought upgradation of the facilities in the cotton markets visited by the Cotton Corporation of India. He also reminded her that a mega-textile park had been approved for Warangal and urged her to speed up the work. Similarly, Gadwal and Sircilla must also be considered for establishing similar parks, he said.

Smriti Irani promised to take up the issue of construction of houses for the weavers in the State through some scheme and said she would call for a meeting of the officials of labour, textiles and rural development ministries in this regard. Dattatreya said he met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday evening to seek funds for laying roads in extremism-affected areas of Telangana.
