New Delhi: Finance Minister Eatala Rajender here on Thursday dismissed the criticism of the BJP that the State government was sluggish in fulfilling its promises and claimed that the TRS government was a true democratic government addressing the concerns of people more than any other government in the country.

Every measure and every programme undertaken by the Finance ministry and every scheme it had launched had been welcomed by the people and the progress in most of these was satisfactory, he said.

Refuting the claim of the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya that the double-bed room housing scheme for the poor was a non-starter, Rajender said even though there was some delay in launching the programme in a full-fledged manner, it was more due to the unaffordable land prices.

“The land prices in the districts and rural areas had seen a steep hike in the recent times due to various developmental measures, including the announcement of projects and formation of smaller districts.

But the government is keen that its promise is fulfilled despite all the odds and efforts are on to pool land for the same,” said Rajender.

Similarly it was wrong to criticise the pace of KG-to-PG programme as the government had sanctioned 600 residential schools out of which 318 had already been completed, he said. Secondly, these Gurukuls were to provide quality education up to Intermediate at least, he added.

Referring to the smaller districts created recently and the decentralisation of administration, the Telangana Finance Minister said the move had been welcomed by the officials as well the general public.

It would help the government in ensuring all developmental programmes and welfare measures reach the people faster, he said.

He said the meetings called for by the Finance Ministry of District Collectors recently had proved that administration had become easier and fairer because of the smaller districts.

“The very fact that the duties handled earlier by the RDO (revenue divisional officer) level officers are now being handled by the Collectors has improved the efficiency. Collectors too are happy that grievances are being addressed in a short time leading to greater satisfaction among the people," said Rajender.
