State to seek 900 crore Central aid

Hyderabad: Expediting the process of giving facelifts to Lambada thandas in order to develop them as village panchayats by providing all facilities, the State government was moving ahead with its plan, said Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister Jupally Krishna Rao.

The Minister on Thursday held a high-level review meeting with Special Chief Secretary SP Singh and Commissioner Nitu Kumari Prasad here at the Secretariat before leaving for Kerala on tour. The meeting assumes significance as the proposed plan to develop major Lambada thandas into gram panchayats has been put on backburner.

Krishna Rao directed the officials concerned to urge the Centre to release Rs 900 crore funds through 14th Finance Commission recommendations to the State to develop village panchayats. The State government was keen on providing employment opportunities to rural people, he said and instructed the officials to appeal to the Centre to sanction six crore working days under the rural employment guarantee scheme.

He also asked the officials to prepare proposals to develop tribal villages into village panchayats. The State government was planning to strengthen the rural pockets by drawing Rs 900 crore from the Centre in the wake of reorganisation of districts, revenue divisions and mandals, the Minister said.

He also asked the officials to prepare necessary proposals for transforming the tribal villages into gram panchaytas. He also instructed them to prepare detailed project report (DPR) on the action plan for implementation of the first phase of Rural Urban Mission (Rurban) at Tandur, Jukkal, Narayanakhed and Asifabad and also discussed the second phase of works.
