A two-day annual ‘Katha’ Regional Writers workshop (South India) was held at Unicent School, Nagole, on November 4 and 5.

Hyderabad: A two-day annual ‘Katha’ Regional Writers workshop (South India) was held at Unicent School, Nagole, on November 4 and 5.

The ‘Katha’ initiative is aimed at encouraging reading and writing stories among school students, as this is becoming a dying tradition in India.

Katha endeavour also encourages translations of traditional folklore and stories from the epics. Unicent School, a CBSE institution which encourages creative and critical thinking among students, hosted the two-day event which evoked tremendous response from schools across South India.

It was a unique learning experience for the participating students as they were exposed to the craft of writing from master wordsmiths. The experts gave tips about how to enhance creative writing skills. The mentors who guided the students were Kala Ramesh who is passionate about Haiku poetry and other such forms of expression and Lavanya Prasad, a professional story teller who uses her talent as a tool to change people’s thinking and attitude.

Shravanthi Talluri, founder –organiser of ‘Writers Club Hyderabad’ which encourages aspiring writers, Prathima, a communication expert, corporate trainer and story teller and Vikram Sridhar, a story teller and a theatre enthusiast, guided and added value to the workshop.
The workshop was brought together by the school Principal Rachna Bhattacharjee and co-ordinator Gowri Palachandran.
