Hyderabad: Stepping up its protest against the TRS government's move to construct a new Secretariat by demolishing the existing buildings, Telangana Congress unit today held a protest outside the state administrative headquarters here.

Several Congress MLAs and other leaders, led by the State Congress chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, took part in the protest.

Congress leader Dhanam Nagander and others tried to enter the Secretariat but were stopped by police.

Alleging that the move to build the new Secretariat by demolishing the existing buildings in the name of "Vastu defects" was a waste of public money, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress would oppose the move in a democratic way.

Reddy had earlier written an open letter to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and also sought the intervention of Governor E S L Narasimhan, to prevail upon the state government to withdraw its decision.
