A two-judge bench of the High court at Hyderabad presided over by the Acting Chief Justice is expected to hear a writ plea on the demonetisation of currency notes by the Union of India on Thursday.

Practising advocate Krishnayya appearing on behalf of the petitioner moved an oral application before the court for the hearing of the matter on Wednesday. The bench said that the matter be numbered in the usual course and listed on Thursday.

Srinivas, a practising advocate, in his writ petition challenged Section 26 (2) of the Reserve Bank of India Act which empowers the Central government on the basis of recommendations of the Direct Taxes Commission to take such action.

It is contended that the provision did not provide necessary guidelines and therefore the provision was unconstitutional. He pointed out that the relevant provision was part of the law made in 1934 before the Constitution was adopted.
