New Delhi: Information Technology and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao on Wednesday urged Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to spare Defence land for building two skyways and to look into the closure of certain roads in the Secunderabad Cantonment area.

Rama Rao met Parrikar in Delhi and discussed various issues with him. He said the State government had planned two skyways on Nizamabad and Adilabad highways - one of 3.8 km length and the other one of 10 km. Since land for the skyways had to be acquired from the Cantonment area, permission of the Defence Ministry was essential, he said.

Rama Rao said the Union Minister had sought equal area of land in lieu and the Telangana government was ready for that. The State government needed about 100 acres of land for the development of roads in Cantonment and for skyways.

He said alternative land to the Defence Ministry would be provided after discussing the matter with the Chief Minister. The Minister said the Union Defence Ministry was asked to postpone closure of Cantonment roads for one more week.
