Revanth accuses KCR of ‘totally’ neglecting farmers’ welfare

​Hyderabad: TDP Telangana unit working president A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday shot off an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao demanding that the State to identify drought-affected mandals and immediately distribute the funds released by the Centre as input subsidy to all farmers.

The TDP leader accused the Chief Minister of neglecting the entire farming community, resulting in an increase in farmer suicides over the last two years in Telangana. A total of 2,700 farmers had committed suicide, unable to cope with the mounting debt burden, he pointed out.

The Union government had recently released Rs 791 crore towards input subsidy and another Rs 80 crore under the watershed programme. But the State government had diverted the central funds for other purposes, forcing farmers to face additional burden, he said. He demanded that the government must protect the distressed farmers immediately.

Revanth disputed the State government’s claim that all the tanks revived under Mission Kakatiya were filled with water in the recent rains.

He maintained that only 30 per cent of the water bodies had received good inflows. Nearly 300 mandals had been declared as water deficit areas this year, he mentioned.

Demanding the government to waive farmers' loans in one go, the TDP leader threatened that his party would launch an intensified struggle if the government did not accept the demands.
