In an unfortunate incident reported in Telangana, an elderly woman hailing from Mahabubabad district has committed suicide on Wednesday night fearing the Rs 54 lakh cash she had been stashing at her home would not be termed valid.

Identified as Vinoda, the 55-year-old woman is said to have been worrying about the money acquired after the sale of their land and particularly as the notes were of the highest denomination, Rs 1,000 notes.

Unaware that the currency notes can be exchanged in banks with new currency, she had reportedly committed suicide. Reportedly, people living in the rural areas are facing turmoil and fearing that their money would not be termed valid. Many in urban areas too opined that they should have been warned at least 24 hours in advance.
