Kadiyam exhorts youth to make use of libraries
Srihari conducted a high-level review meeting on the importance of National Library Week at the Secretariat here on Friday with Special Chief Secretary Ranjiva Acharya, State Libraries Director Venkateshwara Sharma and other officials.Â
​Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari directed officials to conduct Library Week celebrations from November 14 to 20 across the State in a grand manner.
Srihari conducted a high-level review meeting on the importance of National Library Week at the Secretariat here on Friday with Special Chief Secretary Ranjiva Acharya, State Libraries Director Venkateshwara Sharma and other officials.
The Deputy Chief Minister asked the library officials in all districts, including Hyderabad to take immediate steps to furnish the books and study material on demand in all the libraries.
“This will enable the students to prepare for competitive examinations like Group I, II, Civil Services, Banking, Railways and others,” he remarked. Srihari said the State government had decided to conduct the event on a grand scale by involving readers, intellectuals, educated class and others.
He asked the government to release Rs 20 lakh for conduct of the Library Week in 31 districts. Srihari, who also holds Education portfolio, said about 53 lakh readers, including 4.88 lakh members thronged 572 libraries comprising about 68 lakh books of various types and publications.
He said book reading was essential for children, youth and people to get knowledge and awareness on various issues of national and international importance.
The Library Week celebrations will begin on November 14 on Children’s Day, book exhibition on November 15, experts’ speeches on main subjects, seminars and meetings on November 17, reading competitions for students on November 18, Women’s Day on November 19 and Literacy Day on November 20, the concluding day.
