Hyderabad: Alleging that the Centre demonetised currency notes without proper planning, Congress Monday held protests in the State against the move. The opposition party also protested against the alleged attempts by the NDA government to downgrade the contribution of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Congress leaders, led by State party unit president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, protested at the busy commercial locality of Abids. The party activists also burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion.

The police took Congress party leaders into custody and shifted them to Gandhi Nagar police station. The Congress leaders continued the protest in the police station also. Party workers raised slogans lime "Modi Hatao - Desh Bachao" (Remove Modi and Save the Country). The Congress leaders and workers organised similar protests in several districts. Congress party is against black money, but "the manner in which Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes have been demonetised without proper planning resulted in misery to middle classes and chaos in the country," the TPCC President alleged.
