Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma on Tuesday directed the officials to study the impact and financial implications on the State economy as a consequence of demonetisation of high-value currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.

The Chief Secretary held a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat with heads of various departments on the issue. Those who attended the meeting included Special Chief Secretaries Pradip Chandra, S P Singh, M G Gopal, Ranjiv Acharya, S K Joshi, Ajay Mishra, CMO Principal Secretary Narsing Rao, Finance Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Roads and Buildings Secretary Sunil Sharma, Finance Secretary Navin Mittal, Intelligence Inspector General of Police Navin Chand and others.

Rajiv Sharma, while dwelling on the prevailing situation following scrapping of high-value currency notes in the State, has asked the officials to submit a report on the impact.

The meeting assumed significance in view of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao reportedly expressing dismay at the demonetisation because it led to loss of revenue. There would be a loss of Rs 2,000 crore of revenue a month, the Chief Minister pointed out.

The Chief Secretary asked them to monitor the financial implications on day-to-day basis. It was necessary to study the long-term implications caused by the Centre’s decision to scrap the high-value currency notes and prepare a plan of action to tackle it, he said.
