Hyderabad: The Telangana state government’s ambitious plans to develop new districts as ‘growth centres’ may not fructify in the near future.
Consequent to the slump in the state’s revenue generation due to demonetisation, the government has decided to turn prudent in expenditure.
The government has decided not to take up any developmental activity like construction of new integrated buildings for administrative purposes in the newly-formed districts until the time things roll back to normal and the state comes out of the precarious situation.
According to top sources, the district authorities have been directed to utilise the available finances only for the ongoing welfare activities till further instructions.
State Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma is learnt to have reviewed the status of proposals pertaining to integrated district administration offices, road development works and other infrastructure development programmes with the respective district collectors.
He subsequently urged them to do away with new works, at least for the moment. It may be recalled that the government had sanctioned Rs 1 crore to each district for the establishment of new collectorates and the related logistic support.
The district collectors were told to bear with the problems arising out of poor facilities for some more time.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary accompanied by Finance Secretaries K Ramakrishna Rao and Navin Mittal held a video conference with district collectors and discussed about the problems being faced by the common man while exchanging their currency notes.
The Chief Secretary also directed the collectors to take all necessary measures to ensure that the farmers do not face any problem in buying fertilisers or seeds.
He also emphasised on the need to make sure that payment to daily-wage labour engaged in government works was made without any delay.
