Hyderabad: Telangana JAC chairman Prof Kodandaram on Saturday said that the Centre’s decision to demonetise the Rs. 500 and Rs 1000 notes has hit the poor and the farmers hard.

Speaking at a programme at Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar, the JAC chief said that though the Centre says that its decision to demonetise the big currency notes was a fight against the black money, he said that the Centre was waiving off the debts of the rich and the corporate which was in bad taste.

He said that any step to fight against the black money was welcome, but the Centre should ensure that the common people are not subjected to hardships.

He said that the people were happy to an extent that black money could be curbed by the Centre’s demonetisation drive and this would help the government in providing infrastructure but the government’s move to waive off the debts of corporate has let down the people who are facing hardships now due to the demonetisation drive.

How could the government waive off debts of Rs 7,000 crore to corporates at a time when the common people are facing hardships?, the TJAC chief questioned.

Prof. Kodandaram demanded the Centre to seize the assets of all the loan defaulters if they fail to repay the debts.

He also urged the Centre to ease the hardships of the common people by taking enough measures to ensure that the currency exchange is a hassle-free exercise.
