This outlet will accept Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes if produced with an I D proof and in return it will hand over a ‘grocery kit’ consisting of essential items like wheat flour (2 kg), one kg each of turdal, urad dal, onion, salt, sugar and palm oil. This facility would be available till November 24.

Hyderabad: As a way to mitigate the problems being faced by the common people to buy essential commodities in the wake of non-availability of notes of smaller denominations and the problems being faced in exchanging the demonetised notes, Kendriya Bhandar, a Central Government Cooperative, launched a special outlet at Erragadda Rythu Bazaar on Saturday.

According to officials of the Kendriya Bhandar, depending on the response at the maiden Erragadda outlet, they would launch more outlets across both Telugu States to help people with ‘invalid notes’. This system was first introduced in New Delhi. For the first time, such an outlet had come up with the coordination of the State government, they said.

The officials said they had stocks of essential commodities worth Rs 1 lakh. “Even though the deadline for this scheme is November 24, we hope the Central government would further extend it,” said A V R Murthy, Senior Divisional Manager for Telangana, AP and Tamil Nadu.

Customers are being handed over electronically generated bills, which are inclusive of 5 % VAT. “We are selling the essential items under competitive pricing and with minimum margin under ‘no profit and no loss’ policy,” the official added.
