Speaking at a programme to mark the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the late Prime Miniser had taken up numerous steps to reduce poverty like Garibi Hatao and empower the common people.

He said the country had made tremendous strides in the development during the period when Indira Gandhi was at the helm.

He said the late Prime Minister’s initiative to nationalise banks had represented a milestone in reforming the economy.

He urged the party workers to popularise the schemes and welfare measures introduced by Indira Gandhi.

He told the party activists that it was necessary to propagate the achievements of Indira Gandhi now because the NDA government, led by the BJP, was trying to tarnish the image of the late Prime Minister.
