Hyderabad: As part of efforts to speed up the construction of irrigation projects, Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao will meet Union ministers on Wednesday to obtain Central assistance and environmental clearances.

Harish, who is leaving for Delhi on Wednesday to participate in the meeting on Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), will call on Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti, Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh and Forest and Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave.
He will urge the Union government to release the amounts pending under Central assistance for 11 irrigation projects under the PMKSY, exempt bank loans from the purview of the FRBM (Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management) Act, and accord environmental clearances for some of the projects.
The Minister will also discuss with the Agriculture Minister the measures being taken in the marketing sector to provide remunerative prices to farmers. The State government had previously sought Rs 7,000 crore as financial assistance from the Union government towards construct 11 pending irrigation projects in the State.
The Minister had requested the Union Ministry of Water Resources to allocate Rs 2,500 crore funds for four major and seven medium irrigation projects under PMKSY. The State government is seeking 60 per cent central grant for the completion of the projects.
