Mahbubnagar: The District Youth and Sports department in Mahbubnagar is conducting special programmes in search of sporting talent and athletic skills among the rural poor tribal children, particularly in the remote Chenchu pentas in the district.

As part of this initiative, a team of officials led by Satya Vaani, District Youth and Sports Officer (DYSO) conducted special talent identification programmes and organised sports and athletics competition among the school children at Gudi Malkapur Chenchu penta village of Hanwada mandal on Tuesday.

While talking about the programme, Satya Vaani said, “The main aim of our special programme is to identify the sporting skills among the rural population, particularly in the tribal areas.

As part of this drive, we are conducting physical fitness tests for children from the Chenchu pentas and tribal hamlets. Apart from this, we are also creating awareness about various sporting opportunities and facilities provided by the government for encouraging sports and other physical talent among children.”

Particularly in rural areas, the parents are ignorant about the latest opportunities in sports and athletics as a career. They feel that sports is just a waste of time and do not fetch any profitable career in future. Because of this notion, many parents do not encourage their children towards sports, opines Vaani.

To do away with these misconceptions, the District Youth and Sports Department has taken up the task of identifying sporting skills from the rural Chenchu pentas and with the help of local leaders, school teachers and headmasters.

The officials of Sports Department are visiting remote villages every day and conducting physical fitness test for all children in those villages and also organising awareness camps for the parents and local leaders so they can encourage their children to take up sports and athletics as a career.

M Sunil Kumar, athletics coach from Mahbubnagar, Vidhyadhar, Chenchu penta leaders Chenna Veeraiah, Mekala Vekataiah and Anjaneilu, Sarpanch and school headmaster took part in the programme.
