Hyderabad: The Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TS Genco) has stepped up efforts to secure environmental clearances for the Yadadri thermal power station from the Centre and is preparing a revised report for submission.

The officials of TS Genco are revising the old project report of the super critical 4000 MW power station for getting the clearances. Answers to all the issues raised by the Environmental Clearances Committee were prepared after thorough exercise, a higher official of TS Genco told The Hans India.

It may be recalled here that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had met Union Energy minister Piyush Goel during his recent visit to Delhi and requested him to clear the power plants being taken up to overcome shortage in power generation in the state.

The capacity of TS Genco in thermal power generation is 2800 MW and recently, the Singareni built power station has been supplying the power to the state taking the total installed capacity to 4,400 MW. The demand for power is about 6000 MW and it would rise substantially once the lift irrigation projects start functioning.

The government has planned to raise the installed power generation capacity in the thermal sector to 24,000 MW to make it surplus in power generation with the help of installed capacity in the state.

The NTPC has taken up 4,000 MW power station construction and TS Genco is working on construction of 6,000 MW power stations in the form of Bhadradri and Yadadri power stations in Khammam and Nalgonda districts.

The Yadadri power station, once completed would double the power generation capacity of the TS Genco. It can meet a demand of 96 MUs per day.

Yadadri station would have five units with 800 MW plants, and it would be constructed with a cost of Rs 28,000 crores.

Already the government has spent Rs 400 crores on land acquisition. The works of the construction of the power station had come to a halt with the National Green Tribunal giving a stay following complaints from environmentalists.

Recently the stay has been vacated, allowing the TS Genco to go ahead with the works. The Genco officials have started exercise on rectifying the issues raised by the Environmental Clearances Committee of the Centre.

A higher official of TS Genco, on the condition of anonymity, said that they were confident of getting environmental clearances this time and they were waiting for the appointment of the committee.

Since all the doubts raised by the EC would be answered, the clearance would come as soon as the committee is constituted, the official said.
