Centre clarifies on increase of Assembly seats in AP, Telangana

The Union Minister of State for Home, Hansraj has announced that there will be no increase in the Assembly seats in the two Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir has announced that there will be no increase in the Assembly seats in the two Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The subject was raised by TDP member TG Venkatesh in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday where sought the Centre's stand on the proposals sent by the Telangana government on increasing Assembly seats.
Responding to the same, Hansraj clarified that the increase of Assembly seats in the two States would not be possible in the near future as it required amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution as it is clearly mentioned that no delimitation of constituencies is possible till 2026.
