Siddipet: The effect of demonetisation of high denomination currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 which brought untold miseries to people in securing change of smaller notes further worsened the situation on Wednesday.

Farmers and traders dealing with vegetables, mutton and chicken in the town, which is known as an important business centre in Telangana witnessed a steep slump in their business.

Thousands of traders from within 50 km radius of the town come here to conduct business transactions in the biggest agricultural market. Farmers bring their produce to the market for sale. Heavy business in mutton, chicken and vegetables sales also takes place in the markets. Following the effect of demonetization, the business establishments looked deserted on Wednesday, apparently due to the difficulty in securing changes for smaller currency notes.

Traders and commoners have been experiencing hardships in getting small changes after waiting at banks for hours. Residents like Nagaraju, Kanna and Rahim, while speaking to The Hans India about their problems in getting small changes of currency notes, appealed to the Central government and banks to take suitable steps to make available the required notes for easing the hardship of farmers and other sections of society.
