Hyderabad: In a move that is sure to raise eyebrows, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons G Kesava Naidu has been asked not to interfere with the administration of the central prison at Warangal. He is currently the Warangal range DIG Prisons.

Sources said Director-General of Telangana State Prisons Department and Correctional Services V K Singh has warned Kesava Naidu against interfering with the administration of the central prison at Warangal in view of certain grave allegations against him. In fact, Kesava Naidu has been asked not to enter the Warangal central prison.

It is pertinent to note here that two prisoners escaped from the central prison at Warangal under suspicious circumstances early this month, while another prisoner reportedly attempted suicide.

According to sources, Kesava Naidu had been interfering “too much” with the day-to-day administration of the central prison and his ‘connections’ had demoralized the prison staff, ultimately leading to the escape of the two inmates.

The ACB had recommended departmental action against Kesava Naidu in connection with the Gali Janardhana Reddy bribe case.

That apart, a driver lodged a complaint against him with the DGP Prisons alleging that Kesava Naidu beat him up and abused him in filthy language on November 11.

The sources said that the DGP Prisons was not able to take any action against Kesava Naidu since the latter was highly influential. The DGP therefore gave instructions to Hyderabad range DIG A Narasimha to monitor the Warangal central prison.

The DGP Prisons also paid a surprise visit to the central prison at Cherlapally on Wednesday night. The inmates there complained to him that the quality of food being given in the prison was very bad and that the officials were resorting to corruption.

Following this, Singh warned the officials against any irregularities and directed the Hyderabad range DIG to ensure good quality food for the inmates and to take proper care of them.
