Mahbubnagar: Mahbubnagar has become the first District in Telangana to form a district level committee to contain sexual harassment of women at working place.

This committee will look overall at the complaints received from women working in both public and private organisations and are empowered to take appropriate action against the culprits.

While addressing a meeting at the Collector’s chamber, District Collector Ronald Rose said that both men and women are working equally and they should behave properly with the women workers as both have got equal powers.

Ms. Lalitha Kumari from Women and Child Welfare department was appointed as the Chairperson of the first women’s protection committee in the district. The other members in the committee include G.Govardini and P. Nagalaxmi from NGOs, A. Madhuri Mohan and Sakhi from CWC and Ms. Aruna as legal adviser.

Congratulating the members, the collector asked them to form more committees at district, mandal and office levels. “Wherever there are more than 10 women working in an office, one committee must be formed.

It should see that all the complaints of sexual harassment must be resolved and all the rights of women be protected. Candidates who are subjected to any kind of sexual abuse must complain to the committee within three months and the committee members will look into the matter and will provide help to the victims at the earliest,” observed the Collector.
