Death rate of prisoners reduces in Telangana jails

The death rate across various prisons in Telangana has reduced to more than half in the last few years, informed the senior officials of the Jail department.

Stating that the several initiatives including smoking ban, instant relief to the prisoners has led to the reduction in death rate, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, VK Singh said that the 53 deaths were witnessed in 2013, 56 in 2014, 32 in 2015 and only 19 in 2016.
He added that there were only three suicide cases that took place in the last three years.
The jail authorities are conducting health check-ups for every new prisoner on daily basis.
