Hyderabad: The managements of madarsas in Hyderabad have refused to furnish an indemnity bond to the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) authorities to enable the government release funds towards the salaries of Vidya volunteers.

It may be recalled gross irregularities were reported during the period of former district educational officer (DEO) M Somi Reddy, who was also the district project officer of SSA.

The new DEO and DPO, G Ramesh, issued a proceeding, a copy of which is available with The Hans India, to the managements of madarsas to furnish an indemnity bond on a stamp paper worth Rs 100.

The management should give the undertaking that the SSA can recover from the personal assets or properties the funds released by the government to any madarsa in the event the claim made by the madarsa management was found to be false or any irregularity is found by any authority of the SSA.

The SSA authorities have sent the proceedings to all the madarsas through registered post as the Nazims (organisers) of the madarsa refused to take the same by hand.

“This shows that gross irregularities are indeed taking place in the name of running madarsas and there exists a deep rooted scam,” a senior official of the SSA told The Hans India.

It may be recalled an ongoing internal enquiry into the massive scandal involving madarsas revealed that a group of officials of the district education department and the SSA had found funds to the tune of over Rs 2.71 crore meant for the education of poor Muslim children were swallowed every year since 2013-14.

Meanwhile, Syeda Zehra Unnisa, Nazim of Madarsa Ali-Ul-Uloom, situated at Bahadurpura lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Station alleging that members of a madarsa mafia headed by one Mohammed Zubair have drawn funds in the name of their madarsa and transferred the funds to their accounts. She sought thorough investigation and action against the fraudsters.

The CCS sleuths have registered a FIR (250/2016) in this connection and will soon launch investigations. Sources in SSA told The Hans India that there were several such instances where funds meant for genuine madarsas were siphoned off by fraudulent means.

Besides, fake madarsas that exist only on papers were also given huge funds by the previous project officer Somi Reddy.
