Hyderabad: To mark the ‘Deeksha Diwas’ that secured statehood to Telangana followed by hunger strike by TRS Supremo K Chandrashekar Rao on November 29, 2009, the rank and file of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Tuesday celebrated the occasion under the auspices of Telangana Jagruti.

Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy participated in a programme staged by artistes and TRS party activists at the Indira Park.

Legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud, Government Advisor K V Ramanachary, MLA Srinivas Goud, Cinema artiste Suman, poet Nandini Sidha Reddy, lyricist Goreti Venkanna and a huge number of party activists and supporters attended the event.

The artistes enthralled the audience with their songs and dances. Speaking on the occasion, Narsihma Reddy stated that KCR’s fast had propelled the Centre to accord statehood to Telangana. KCR’s dream became a reality with the Deeksha Diwas which got its prominence in the annals of the new State.

“Telangana is now a new State and is making rapid strides in every field under the able leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” he said.

KCR, the Home Minister said, had continued his struggle for statehood for Telangana despite several hurdles placed in the way and got it.

“We are now focusing on promoting welfare of people, besides education and health sectors,” he pointed out.

Suman praised KCR for his relentless struggle for the welfare of the people and development of the new State.

At Bejjanki in Karimnagar district, Finance Minister E Rajender, MLA Rasamayi Balakishan took part in the event and conducted a blood donation camp.

Naradasu Lakhsman, ZP Chairman, and others took part. MLC Karne Prabhakar said that this was historical and the day ensured Telangana is formed.

“Like Martin Luther King for America, Nelson Mandela for South Africa, KCR is for Telangana. He would stay in the hearts of people as Telangana Gandhi,” Prabhakar said.
