Hyderabad: The demonetisation of high value currency notes seems to have had little impact on people with power and pelf, going by the astronomical sums bid on Wednesday for registration of fancy numbers in the city RTA office that netted revenues of over Rs 14 lakhs by auctioning the appealing numerals.

The Khairatabad RTA office released the TS O9 ER series numbers on Wednesday. According to sources, among the bidders, the highest bid was for the number TS 09 ER 0009, for which the Nova Educational Society quoted Rs 3,11,000.

The vehicle owner paid Rs 3,61,000, including the prescribed fee of Rs 50,000 to the Transport Department. Registration number TS 09 ER 0006 was taken by the Porus Laboratories by paying Rs 2,10,000, including fee of Rs 10,000.

The registration number TS 09 ER 0099 was allotted to one B Rama Krishna, who quoted Rs 1,50,000 for the number. He paid Rs 1,80,000 for the number, including the prescribed fee.

The registration number TS 09 ER 0111 was allotted to P L Raju Constructions as they paid Rs 1,50,000 including Rs 10,000 fee to get the vehicle. Registration number TS 09 ER 0005 was allotted to NED Ventures LLP, which had quoted Rs 1,25,000.

According to officials, fancy registration numbers such as 1, 9, 999, and 9999 come with a basic price of Rs 50,000. Similarly, there are other numbers such as 99, 555, 666, 777, 888 etc.
