Hyderabad: Rajendranagar police on Friday took into custody two persons of a gang for allegedly cheating a resident of Secunderabad on the pretext of exchanging the demonetised currency notes.

Police said the gang had taken demonetised currency notes valued at Rs 7 lakh from Praveen of Secunderabad promising him to provide him new currency notes at a 15 per cent commission. However, the gang neither gave him new currency notes nor returned the old notes. Realising that he had been cheated, Praveen lodged a complaint with Rajendranagar police, where members of the gang live. Consequently, police are questioning two persons as part of investigation.

Meanwhile, Banjara Hills police detained four persons and were said to have seized new currency notes valued at Rs 50 lakh. Sources said, two persons from Khammam met two people in a park at Filmnagar and were finalising a deal for exchanging the currency notes with demonetised currency when they were nabbed by the police.
