Hyderabad: The Indian Railways has initiated feasibility studies to set up new warehousing terminals in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states. The decision has been taken as demand forecasting has come of age in several places across the two Telugu states.

According to Central Railside Warehousing Corporation (CRWC) officials in Hyderabad, the corporation already has a facility at Sanathnagar in the city. Feasibility studies have begun to establish a new terminal at Falaknuma.

Besides, the new industrial hubs and two industrial corridors between Hyderabad- Warangal and Hyderabad-Nagapur proposed by the State government have got the Centre's nod.

It was against this backdrop that steps were initiated to figure out the potential in other places beyond Hyderabad in Telangana for new Integrated Railside Warehousing Terminals (IRWT), they added.

The CRWC has already entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone (IKSEZ) in Nellore to form a joint venture company for development of an Integrated Railside Warehouse Complex (IRWC) and Freight Terminal (FT) at the SEZ, build 5000 MTs of general warehouse and 2000 MTs of cold storage demand, along with ancillary infrastructure during the first phase.

Also, the Railway Board has sent proposals to carry out studies to establish new IRWCs at Vijayawada, Guntur and Visakhapatnam.

There were proposals from Andhra Pradesh to carry out feasibility studies for new IRWCs, including at places like Machilipatnam, Kakinada and Gangavaram, sources added.

Studies have been taken up to figure out feasibility for new ones in Vijayawada, Guntur and Visakhapatnam as well.

When contacted, CRWC official Rajesh Kumar Singh told The Hans India, “Some of the studies have been initiated and they are expected to be completed in two to three months.

Then, the corporation would submit its report to the Railways to take a final call on establishing the terminals.”

Mostly, the product range creating the demand for new warehousing ranges from exporting and importing fertilizers, processed foods, perishables, paddy, pharmaceuticals and the like.

The CRWC has been formed, with the Central Warehousing Corporation and the Indian Railways joining hands, to create new warehousing capacity across the country on lands belonging to Indian Railways located along or adjacent to its railway lines.

This is to meet the much-needed logistics support to the growing demand of industries, imports and exports sector in the country.
