SEGREGATION OF DRY AND WET GARBAGE

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has entered into an agreement with ITC to pick up dry and wet garbage separately. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said the private firm would pay a ‘tipping fee’ to the civic body for collecting solid waste. A pilot project is likely to be taken up in Uppal and Rajendranagar circles by December 25.

The Commissioner said in order to improve sanitary conditions, the GHMC would conduct several programmes in the city from December 12 to January 12. "As part of the exercise the GHMC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ITC in which it asked the firm to segregate dry and wet garbage and in return it would pay tipping fee for the solid waste," he said.

He also said that NGOs, residential welfare associations, government and private educational institutions would be involved in the cleanliness and awareness drive conducted by the GHMC.
