Nearly 10 persons were feared killed and several others sustained injuries when a multi-storeyed building under construction in Nanakramguda collapsed late on Thursday evening, according to city police commissioner Mahender Reddy.

​Hyderabad: Nearly 10 persons were feared killed and several others sustained injuries when a multi-storeyed building under construction in Nanakramguda collapsed late on Thursday evening, according to city police commissioner Mahender Reddy.

Nearly 12 injured persons were rushed to a private hospital while more than 20 persons are believed to be trapped under the debris.

According to initial reports, five families working in the construction work were living in the building. Four families were engaged in plumbing and tile-laying work.

The other family was of watchman’s. Construction of the building was already completed but for the tile and plumbing work. All the occupants were said to be fast asleep when the building caved in.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy, Minister G Padma Rao along with officials of the GHMC, the police, and the fire services rushed to the place of mishap and launched rescue and relief operations.

The GHMC authorities are trying to get a team of NDRF for the rescue and relief operations.Meanwhile, sources said the building belongs to one Satyanarayana and it caved in due to poor quality of the construction work and material.
