Hyderabad: Personnel of the Special Branch police recently evicted 21 out of the 36 families identified as illegally occupants of 2BHK flats built at the IDH colony in Secunderabad.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau authorities had identified for eviction a total of 36 families that had occupied some of the 396 flats built by the Government of Telangana at a cost of Rs 30.50 crore.
The housing colony was built as a model for the government’s prestigious project. In spite of adopting foolproof methods in flat allotment, unscrupulous persons took possession of some of the flats. In some of the flats, people other than original allottees are living.
According to IDH Colony president Dakshina Murthy, some more families have been illegally staying in the flats.
They were claiming to be either successors or adopted children of the original allottees. The government had built the 2BHK flats without giving scope for irregularities and allotted them to eligible beneficiaries.
However, some unscrupulous elements, with the connivance of political leaders, later took possession of some of the flats.
The local people complained that at least three families had been living in some of the flats and wanted the authorities to evict them and allot the units to rightful owners.
When asked to produce evidence, they claim to be close relations of the original allottees. They are not able to give correct replies when confronted with questions on the whereabouts of the original allottees.
For example, the 2GF flat in Block-2 was allotted to Eswaraiah. But, a couple, Diva and Saikumar, is living in it. When questioned, they claimed they were successors to Eswaraiah.
They were not able to produce either the death certificate or the ration card of Eswaraiah in support of their claims.
However, some of the neighbours maintained that the couple shared no relation whatsoever with Eswaraiah’s family.
Out of 396 flats, 386 have been allotted to beneficiaries. Ineligible persons are living in the rest. There are disputes in respect of 11 flats.
That is why, the police got them vacated and have locked the flats.
