Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to stop providing funds to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) to reimburse the loss the latter is making on its city service. This may strain the relations between the GHMC and the TSRTC.
The GHMC Standing Committee, at its meeting here on Thursday, adopted a unanimous resolution in this regard.
The Standing Committee took the decision despite the State government’s directive to the GHMC to keep funding the TSRTC to run the city services.
The committee took note of the precarious financial condition it is presently in, and cited it as a factor that influenced the situation.
“If the GHMC is forced to pay Rs 273.38 crore, the civic body’s financial condition will further deteriorate,” the Standing Committee noted. The GHMC’s elected representatives also decided to submit to the government the reasons for their decision to stop fund the TSRTC city services.
Meanwhile, in other issues that were part of the day’s agenda, the civic body approved eight items, including annual payment to the tune of Rs 1, 44, 10, 596 to mobile service provider Bharti Airtel.
The committee also agreed to seek Rs 85, 50,70,000 as administrative sanction from the government in order to construct 9,896 double bedroom houses at eight different locations.
Around 22 stalls catering to the hugely popular Rs 5 meal counters would be set up at select locations in the city. The corporation consented to pay compensation to property owners whose land had been acquired for the construction of an 80 feet road from Ayyappa Society to Borabanda.
Chaired by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan , Standing Committee members B Prakash, V Srinivas Reddy, R Padma Naik, T Sonarita Reddy, G Anjaiah, K Narendra, M Kavitha, K Saibaba, MA Ghaffar, Syed Sohail Quadri, Ayesha Rubina, Syed Minhajuddin and other senior officials, participated in the deliberations.
