Vijayawada: Opposition leader in Telangana State Legislative Council and Congress senior leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu offfered worthless packages to Andhra Pradesh and observed that the State would not develop without special funds and Special Category Status (SCS).

Shabbir participated in the Praja Ballot on Special Package to AP and TDP election promises in the State organised by Youth Congress and NSUI at the APCC office, here on Thursday.

Later, addressing newsmen, Shabbir said that he had voted for Special Category Status to the AP in the Praja Ballot and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu were playing games with Telugu people on granting SCS.

“The AP Chief Minister and Telangana Chief Minister played games with Telugu People’s sentiments in both States,” he added.

Referring to note-for-vote case in Telangana State, Shabbir alleged that TS Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had compromised in the case for personal interests, rather than interests of their respective States.

On demonetisation, the Congress leader said even though Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States had opposed scrapping of high-value notes, Naidu and KCR were supporting it for personal benefit.

Stating that the two Chief Ministers were vigorously campaigning for cashless transactions, he said that even developed countries like the US and Singapore had not achieved 100 per cent cashless transactions.

He lashed out at the TDP government saying that it had failed to implement election promises made for the development of SC, ST and Minorities in the State.

He recalled that Naidu had not appointed a Minority Minister for the welfare of Muslim minorities in the State so far.

Shabbir said that India was economically strengthening to compete with developed nations but the Centre’s demonetisation proved to be big blow.

He said people of Telugu States would teach a lesson to the governments in the States and at the Centre at an appropriate time.

APCC general secretaries N Narasimha Rao, S Shanti Bhushan, T J Sudhakar Babu, State Mahila Congress president Sunkara Padmasree, city Congress president Malladi Vishnu and others were present.
