Hyderabad: The Communist Party of India Telangana state council has demanded a vigilance inquiry into the collapse of the under-construction building at Nanakramguda in the city on Thursday.

CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy told newsmen here that stringent action should be taken against officials responsible for the tragedy. He said that the GHMC must pay Rs.10 lakh ex gratia to the kin of each of the deceased.

Venkat Reddy alleged that the GHMC was to blame for the collapse as its officials, particularly deputy commissioner, had indulged in irregularities for giving permissions to the builder who had been constructing the building for the last four years.

It was unfortunate that incidents of building collapse were taking place in Hyderabad frequently though Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had stated that action would be initiated against illegal constructions, he said.

The CPI leader said that the TRS government, which had razed poor people’s huts in the name of illegal constructions, owed an explanation to the people as to why it had failed to behave in a similar manner towards big builders and big babus.
