10 prisoners to be freed
As many as 10 prisoners will be freed from the Central Jail at Chanchalguda on the eve of Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
Hyderabad: As many as 10 prisoners will be freed from the Central Jail at Chanchalguda on the eve of Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
Many of these prisoners are reportedly those who had been serving time after being charged with petty offences and lack financial and other resources to seek bail. FOCUSS, a Hyderabad-based social welfare organisation, which conducts blood donation camps every year on the eve of Milad-un-Nabi, has taken the initiative to sponsor legal fees for such prisoners.
Addressing a press conference, FOCUSS president Mohsin Bin Mohammed Al Hamoomi said that there were many prisoners losing very important time of their life in jail. They could as well be spending that time outside the jail, reuniting with their families and leading a better life. “Our initiative is a first step towards achieving this. Out of 10 prisoners, three will be released from jail on December 13 and the seven will be released at successive one-day intervals. We made no demarcations of caste and creed in considering their release”, he added.
Office bearer of FOCUSS, Ahsan Bin Mohammed Al Hamooni said: “If each affluent family from city comes forward to sponsor the legal fees of one prisoner who cannot afford it by himself, a lot of prisoners convicted will be able to live free and with their families again.”
On December 12, a blood donation camp will also be conducted by FOCUSS, along with Tanzeem Irshad-ul-Muslimeen, from 7 am to 5 pm at the State Central Library, Afzal Gunj, Idgah Balamrai, Secunderabad and Divine Path School, Mahmoodguda.
Last year, nearly 900 youngsters donated blood during the camp. The blood so collected was distributed among the needy patients through Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society Blood Bank and the Red Cross Society.
