Hyderabad: Highlighting the predicament of farmers in the State, TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has alleged that banks are now refusing to give fresh loans to farmers as the much-touted loan waiver scheme had not been implemented properly by the State government.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Bhatti said that in addition there was scarcity of new notes precluding farmers from getting loans even from private sources.
So, around 40 lakh farmers were directionless in the State, he maintained. Bhatti said that the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister should focus on these issues immediately.
The agriculture sector would slip into deep crisis if the government failed to initiate corrective steps on a war-footing.
The State government ought to have spoken to the Centre on farmers’ plight, but unfortunately Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was not thinking about their problems, he alleged.
The impact of demonetisation of high value notes was severe on villages and the agriculture sector in particular, he said. Hyderabad city had ‘collapsed’ during the TRS regime.
The State government had a responsibility to protect the city, considering the development that took place during the Congress government, Bhatti mentioned.
Condemning Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao’s criticism of the Congress party, Bhatti said it was unbecoming on the part the Legislative Affairs Minister to make irresponsible comments.
He said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had never kept his word on running the Assembly. “KCR speaks one thing and does something different.
The TRS government has never run the House with responsibility,” he remarked. In the coming Assembly session, the Congress party would ‘cleanse’ the TRS government, which was neck-deep in corruption, he observed.
Bhatti attributed the creation of Telangana to the Congress party’s movement and the relentless efforts of Congress leaders. “I played a key role as Deputy Speaker when the Telangana Bill was introduced in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Sonia Gandhi created separate Telangana State, while sticking to the word she had given to the people as per their aspirations”, he said.
