Hyderabad: Alleging that Minister Talasani Srinivas was behind the sanction of hundreds of 2 BHK flats in the name of ‘fictitious’ persons, Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Saturday demanded the Revenue Department to book criminal cases against the minister.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, Shashidhar Reddy hailed the authorities for initiating action against those who were found ineligible to occupy some of the 2 BHK units.

He demanded a thorough probe, alleging that men close to the ruling TRS were directly involved in selling the flats to ineligible families. “We believe that the Minister is directly involved in the scam.”

It may be mentioned here that recently, personnel of the Special Branch police evicted 21 out of the 36 families identified as illegal occupants of 2BHK flats built at the IDH colony in Secunderabad.

The former Minister also pointed out that the entire illegal exercise had created ill will amongst the poor families.

While referring to the recent murder of a couple who were pushed from a building by their relatives in November, he said the incident reflected how serious the situation had become, though the scheme was launched with good intentions.

The Minister had also encouraged his ‘henchmen’ to encroach upon lands belonging to others, including Wakf land parcels, the Congress leader alleged.

“Unless a complete investigation is taken up, these kinds of scams would continue in future. How will the Chief Minister do justice to the poor to whom he has promised 2BHK houses?” he questioned.
