Hyderabad: Unannounced load shedding and frequent breakdowns in certain parts of the state, including areas on the city outskirts, have left people fuming at the officials of power utilities. Power breakdowns lasting for about three hours a day have been reported in more than 40 areas on Tuesday as against the average of four to five such occurrences on each day, according to Transco officials.

Power supply was affected in five places in Mahbubnagar district, one each in Nalgonda, Medak, Ranga Reddy South, Ranga Reddy North, 17 areas in Hyderabad South, and six in Hyderabad central areas. The total disturbances in GHMC area is in about 24 areas on December 13.

In some parts of GHMC area, power supply has been shut down from 7 am to 3 pm. There were no announcements about the shut down causing problems for the office-goers and school-going children. Such problems have been witnessed more in areas like Nizampet, Hayatnagar and Nagole.

An official of the TS Southern Power Discom informed The Hans India that there has been a fall in demand for power during last fortnight and hence the Genco had cut down production of power by 250 MW. With rabi season having begun, the demand for power has gone up again but the Genco is yet to step up the production.

According to Director Operations, TS Southern Power Discom, J Srinivasa Reddy, they were aware that some momentary trippings have been taking place due to some minor faults which were normally rectified in five to eight minutes. Since they have received complaints of unannounced load shedding in some parts of the city, the officials have been asked to look into the matter and see that people do not suffer.

He agreed that there were some minor glitches in power supply. In some places due to faulty insulators, pole damages, tree branches falling on the powerlines, jumper snapping, conductor failure, line cut, sparks in the cables and faulty loads leading to disruption in the supply.
